The Luck of Getting Hired in Higher Ed
Despite all the coaching, interview preparation, and résumé crafting, no one talks about how much getting hired in academia depends on luck.
In the depressed job market for faculty and academic administrators, more applicants will be rejected than hired in 2024. Worse, most of those rejections will occur despite stellar supporting credentials.
